THE IONA PHILOSOPHY

Inspired by the vision of the founder, Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice, the Congregation of Christian Brothers is entrusted by the Church with the evangelization of youth through the apostolate of Christian Education.

Iona Grammar School is a private, male, Catholic Grammar school in Westchester County, New York in the established tradition of the education excellence of the Christian Brothers.

Iona Grammar School is the responsibility of the Board of Trustees of the Congregation of Christian Brothers. The trustees delegate the Administration of Iona Grammar School to a community-based Board of Directors and to the President / Headmaster.

Iona Grammar School roots its education philosophy in the Catholic faith. The school community strives to be unique, contemporary and committed to Jesus' invitation to grow in love as its guiding principle. The school community includes the Board of Directors, administration, faculty, staff, parents and students. The dedicated faculty at Iona educates young men in a caring, safe and structured environment. It recognizes that all students have different talents and learning skills. The faculty appreciates the knowledge and gifts of other cultures and ethnic backgrounds among the students.

The faculty attempts to reach the minds and hearts of the students. The person's creative styles and expertise of the teacher help form a well rounded Christian education for the students.

THE SPIRIT OF IONA

Iona Grammar School students are encouraged to grow in their faith and be young men for others.  To this purpose, Iona offers students a Gospel centered, value-oriented Catholic education.

Our students participate in Eucharistic Liturgy and prayer services at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Holy Days, during Lent, and at other appropriate times.  Classroom prayer is practiced everyday.

The holiday food collection, Hunger Walk, and continued support of the Brothers' Peruvian Missions are designed to encourage humanitarian values.

The "Iona Grammar Family" is enhanced by the close cooperation of students, parents, and faculty.  Students grow in a comfortable atmosphere that is conducive to life-long friendships with faculty and classmates alike.
